Class Content will include:


  • History and use of herbs from ancient times to the present
  • Fundamentals of medicine making - teas, decoctions, tinctures, glycerites, salves, pills, poultices and more.
  • Use and benefits of kitchen and garden cultivated herbs.
  • Recognizing, using and responsible wildcrafting of local plants; possible field trip
  • Use and benefits of select herbs from Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda
  • Planting and propagating herbs
  • Creating a home medicine chest for everyday ailments for babies to elders
  • Cold processed soap making and home care products
  • Essential Oils - history, use and safety
  • What is CAM - Complementary and Alternative Medicine  / Integrative Medicine
  • What does it mean to be an herbal / plant community supporter
  • Room  for including topics of particular interest to the class
